Job Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Executive Director of Special Education & Student Support Services: 1. Supervises the health and physical development of students; assesses and evaluates health and developmental concerns of students and makes appropriate medical references. 2. Refers parents of pupils needing medical care or welfare assistance to appropriate private or community resources. 3. Conducts a program directed toward the control of communicable diseases in the school and community. 4. Serves as a health education resource person to staff and pupils. 5. Assists in identification of safety and health hazards on school sites. 6. Provides health counseling services and anticipatory guidance for parents and school staff. 7. Notifies parents of pupils about illnesses, physical defects, and potential health problems and provides health counseling directed toward pursuit of appropriate action. 8. Supervises assigned health assistants. 9. Confers with family medical advisors as indicated. 10. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field.
Must posses/eligibility for valid Health Services Credential authorizing service as a school nurse in accordance with Ed. Code 44267.5, 44877 & 49422 and issued by the Commission of Teacher Credentialing.
Current license as a Registered Nurse as defined in Chapter 6 of Business and Professions Code, section 2700;
valid CA driver’s license and ability to provide transportation between school assignments
Current CPR/First Aid certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
